A meaningful gift — especially fun for aspiring little chefs and curious kids.

Inspired by real life — rooted in a North Dakota family restaurant legacy.
The Legacy Behind Oliver

Oliver's culinary world was inspired by one very real one.

My parents spent decades owning and operating the White House Cafeteria in Bismarck, North Dakota, where my dad built his life around feeding people and our family collected countless memories around food, work, and the kitchen.

Years later, those memories found their way into something completely unexpected: a curious little owl with a dream of opening his own cafe.

Oliver the Owl is my playful tribute to that legacy—reimagined for a new generation of little readers.
A Note from Rayna

I created Mix, Play, Stir because I wanted little readers to have another way to spend time in Oliver’s world—this time with pencils, crayons, puzzles, and plenty of room for their own imaginations. Learning doesn’t always have to feel like learning, and some of the best discoveries happen when kids are simply having fun.

I hope these pages encourage your little one to color outside the lines, work through a tricky puzzle, make something entirely their own, and feel proud of what they can do. Most of all, I hope Oliver keeps them curious, creative, and excited to see what they’ll discover next.

COLORING, ACTIVITIES & A BONUS STORY

One Missing Button. A Whole Lot of Adventure.

Oliver has a forest berry pie to bake—but the button on his favorite apron has disappeared! Join Daisy the Bunny, Scout the Squirrel, and Ruby the Raccoon as they follow clues through the forest to help him find it.

With coloring, puzzles, and playful activities alongside The Search for the Missing Button, there’s more to explore than a page to color. Pack the crayons for an outing, or settle in together and see where Oliver’s adventure leads.

INSPIRED BY REAL LIFE

From a Real Cafe to Oliver's Treehouse

Some of the smallest details carry the biggest memories. This original White House Cafeteria tray holds a cup of my dad's borscht alongside a guest check with my mom Joan's order a little snapshot of the restaurant life that surrounded my childhood.

Years later, those memories helped inspire a very different cafe: Oliver's Twinkling Treehouse Cafe.
