Soup, Copycats, and the Fast-Track to Oliver’s Next Paperback Edition
You know that feeling when you’re working on something super special, holding it close to your heart, and dreaming of the day you share it with the world? That’s exactly where I’ve been with this new creative book for the Oliver the Owl series since October. The cover? Gorgeous. The content? Mapped out like a treasure hunt. The timeline? Moving at a snail’s pace because, well, life.
As many of you know, my focus has been split—caregiving for my mom as she battles late-stage cancer has understandably slowed the creative process. But I’ve been okay with that. Family first, right?
Well, that was until a certain bowl of knoepla soup sparked a new sense of urgency.
The other day, a dear friend stopped by for soup and a visit, and we stumbled onto something that made me do a double take. There it was: a brand-new book on Amazon. At first glance, it seemed harmless enough. But then I looked closer.
The cover? Suspiciously familiar. The main character? An Owl named Oliver. Living in (wait for it) an enchanted world. I mean, come on. What’s next? A recipe for owl-shaped cookies in the back?
Now, I get it—creativity is a big, wild ocean. But when someone sails a little too close to your shores, it stirs things up. My first reaction was disbelief, followed by the classic “I need a minute.” But by the time I’d finished my soup (and maybe grabbed a cookie for backup), I was fired up.
So, here’s the deal: I’m fast-tracking this book. The tweaks, the edits, the magic—it’s all getting done now. Why? Because there’s only one Oliver the Owl, and this little book deserves to be out there, bringing whimsy, creativity, and family fun to your homes. And, my Mom is just great. She’s all for it, too. She’ll be helping with the editing process while curled up in her blankie and jammies.
To the copycat: Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but nothing beats the original.
